Jake Beardsley ganó este Domingo el Pro Tour Lord of the Rings en Barcelona, España con Rakdos Midrange.

Beardsley entró al Top 8 en la posición número 4, con un récord de 12-3-1. Beardsley se clasificó para su primer Pro Tour con un Top 24 en el Regional Championship en San Diego. Obtuvo marca de 8-1-1 en rondas de Moderno con Rakdos Midrange y de 4-2 en el Draft de The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth.

Beardsley inició los cuartos de final con una victoria por 3-1 sobre Marco Del Pivo en Temur Rhinos, quien fue uno de los tres jugadores en las rondas eliminatorias con el tercer mazo más jugado del evento. Luego venció a Dom Harvey en Amulet Titan, uno de los cuatro jugadores que lograron el combo/ramp, 3-1 para llegar a la final y enfrentarse al pilar del PT, Christian Calcano.

Beardsley tomó el Juego 3 después de un turno 1 muy agresivo, matando a Calcano antes de que su Urza Tron pudiera producir una amenaza significativa. El juego 4 resultó ser el juego más tenso del partido, ya que Calcano se enfrentó a un asunto prolongado manteniendo una carta que no era tierra en la mano cuando tenía dos vidas para no morir por un disparador de  Kroxa, Titan of Death’s Hunger.

Tan agotador como fue el Juego 4, el Juego 5 terminó en un instante cuando Beardsley aseguró el turno 1 con Grief a través de Undying Malice para quitarle la mano a Calcano y aplicar presión, respaldado por una Blood Moon en el Turno 3. Beardsley nunca necesitó otra amenaza como Grief recorrió la distancia ya que Calcano no pudo encontrar una manera de salir de debajo de la Blood Moon o responder a la Encarnación Elemental.

Beardsley se llevó a casa el trofeo y $50,000 USD en su primera aparición en un Pro Tour, al tiempo que aseguró una invitación al World Championship y al próximo ciclo de PT.

El actual campeón mundial de MTG, Nathan Steuer, gano el Pro Tour March of the Machine con Rakdos Midrange, derrotando al mazo Rakdos Reanimator de Cain Rianhard tres juegos a uno en la final.

El Top 8 del Domingo fue la tercer final consecutiva de Steuer, después de haber ganado el World Championship del 2022 en Octubre de 2022 y el Top 8’d Pro Tour Phyrexia en Febrero del 2023.

Steuer pilotó el mazo más popular del torneo, Rakdos Midrange (con un 18,7 % del campo), que presentaba la carta definitoria del Estándar durante el último año: Fable of the Mirror-Breaker. Cuatro de los mazos en el Top 8 eran Rakdos Midrange, todos miembros del mismo equipo de prueba, Team Handshake, mientras que Rakdos Reanimator de Rianhard también jugó cuatro copias de la carta. Esos primeros resultados llegaron inmediatamente después de ganar la Temporada 3 de la Championship Series de Magic Online del 2021 y 2022.

Joseph Karani ganó el segundo Campeonato Regional Canadiense en Calgary el Domingo con Rakdos Midrange.

Karani hizo 11-2-1 en las rondas suizas, ese récord le aseguro entrar a las rondas de eliminación en la posición No. 2. Derrotó a Cameron Sweetnam en Abzan Parhelion en los cuartos de final. En la semifinal tiene un Mirror Match de Rakdos Midrange contra Daniel Fournier, el Rakdos de Karani logró imponerse y obtener la victoria.

Karani se enfrentó y ganó a Michael Knie en Abzan Parhelion en la final, asegurando una invitación al Worlds y el premio de $3,000 USD por el primer lugar. Todos los jugadores del Top 8 ganaron invitaciones al Pro Tour junto con dinero en efectivo y una carta promocional de Teferi, Hero of Dominaria.

Christian Trudel ganó el primer Campeonato Regional Canadiense en Toronto el Domingo con Mono-Green Devotion.

Trudel tuvo marca de 13-1 en en las rondas suizas para ingresar a las rondas de eliminación en la posición No. 1 del evento de 345 personas.

Rakdos Midrange, el mazo más jugado en el evento con 60 pilotos, fue el único otro mazo que puso dos copias en las rondas de eliminación. Izzet Phoenix fue el segundo mazo más jugado con 38 copias, seguido de Mono-Green Devotion con 36 y Mono-White Humans con 30. Izzet Phoenix, Gruul Vehicles, Lotus Field Combo y Mono-White Humans completaron el Top 8 de mazos.
